Welcome
The Sacramento Aquarium Society (SAS) is a local fish club that meets at 7:00 pm on the first Saturday of each month. We are a non-profit organization with an objective to encourage and further the interest of the care and breeding of tropical fish and to promote the exchange of information between amateur aquarists. Meetings typically include a guest speaker, bowl show, raffle, attendance prize, and an auction which includes fish, aquatic plants, and aquarium supplies. Many of the auction items go for less than wholesale prices.

Camellia Koi Club Show is 27 through 28 September
The 2008 Sacramento Combined Koi Show is a great local Koi show that is FREE to attend, with free lectures. If you want to see some truly awesome Koi this is an event you don't want to miss. This event is the place to go if you want to buy small Koi that have the potential to be a show winner. The Koi offered for sale by vendors at this show are much higher quality than what you will find at your local fish or pond store.
08/03/2008 - New Monthly Auction List Page
New "Monthly Auction List" page has been added to the SAS web site along with a new menu link on the left side of the page. The purpose of this list is to let aquarium hobbyist in our local area know ahead of time what fish/plants will be offered in upcoming auctions so they can research and prepare an aquarium ahead of time for these potential new acquisitions. If you are planning on bringing fish or plants to a future monthly auction and would like the public to see what you plan on offering in the auction, please email Tony Griffitts the following information:
- Name of person bring fish/plants
- Species common name
- Scientific name
- Recommended Minimum Bid
- Common Retail Price found in LFS
- Monthly meeting date the fish/plant will be in the auction
- Any additional comments
In addition to the above information, you may also attach a photo of what will be offered.
07/12/2008 - Republishing of Marty Brittan Article on the SAS Web Site
"Memories From the Mesozoic" was written by Marty Brittan and published in the Tropical News October 2005 issue. This article is a great historical contribution to the aquarium hobby that the SAS Board of Directors wanted to have shared with the aquarium hobbyist worldwide. PDF version of this article.
05/29/2008 - SAS Remembers Dr. Marty Brittan 01/28/1922 - 05/23/2008
It is with great sadness to have to report that our long time friend and honorary member since 1962, Dr. Marty Brittan has passed away. Marty was an accomplished ichthyologist and professor at California State University - Sacramento. He was also a WWII veteran. His contributions to the tropical fish hobby are numerous. 05/04/2008 - New "Library" page added to Members Only web pages
See the new "Library" link at the bottom of the "Members Menu" to access a list of items you can check out at the general monthly meetings. You must log in to the "Members Only" part of the web site to see the "Library" list. You must have a username and password to see the "Members Only" menu. Thanks Jack for creating the list! - TG

New Look for Web Site in 2008
The web site has been updated with a new header graphic of a Amano style planted aquarium taken at Aqua Forrest Aquarium in San Francisco. The web site now has a 3D border and colored columns on the right and left of the content.
Free Ammonia-Nitrogen Calculator & Information Link
A link has been added to the "Hobby Links" page for Professor James Alleman's "Free Ammonia-Nitrogen Calculator & Information" web page. This is a great tool for finding out how much of your ammonia reading is actually toxic free ammonia (NH3).
Water Change Calculator
The "Water Change Calculator" has been uploaded to the web site and can be found on the "Downloads" web page in the "Members Only" section of the site.
"Members Only" Web Pages
The new Members Only section is available to members of the Sacramento Aquarium Society. It currently contains articles, current and past digital issues of the Tropical News newsletter, email addresses for club members, contact information for club officers and committee chairs, a list of sales table products, and Board of Directors meeting schedule.
